Makeup Tips (Home) > Makeup > Dark Skin Make up for dark skin1. Foundation: Choose a creamy or liquid foundation, but that should not be oily. Water based foundation is preferred. In yellow pigmented skin, use a product that is not orange based. A sheer foundation and a good concealer are essential for creating the illusion of perfect skin. The foundation should not be lighter than your skin tone. Try to use one which is as close to your normal skin colour as possible. When you apply foundation and powder, your must aim for a lighter coverage. Dark skins show up layers of make- up much more than fair skins. Blending should be done carefully. Add a drop of water to the foundation before you apply it. Mix them on the back of your hand and apply it on your skin. 2. Powder: Use a light powder after the foundation. This gives the skin a sheen and is not too heavy. Avoid applying too much powder, specially around the eyes. Dust off the excess powder. 3. Blusher: Choose colors from coral, rose, deep orange for your blush. Avoid browns and peachy shades for blush-on. For very dark skin, dark rose pink colour for the day and shades of bronze, plum and wine for the night are suggested. Blend the blusher over the cheekbones, as it brightens the skin tone. 4. Eye makeup: Dark skin tone looks excellent with dark purple and blue colors on eyes. Dark metallic colors also look better. Silver around your eye will make them stand out and look outstanding. End with black eyeliner and black mascara. If you want to use eyeshadow, avoid white or very light colours. A gold eye shadow would be complimentary where as a silver one may not look good. 5. Highlighter: Can be very effective on dark skins when used on the bridge of the nose, around the eye area, above the cheek bones and just above the upper lip. 6. Lipstick: Choose lipsticks with the matte finish rather than frosted ones. Medium and dull shades would look better. Bright pinks and reds are not preferred. If you have dark lips, then before applying lipstick put some foundation and powder on your lips. Lip colors such as blackberry, caramel and purples can be applied by dark skinned persons.
